There are specific things that every single Guy ought to be able to do. I am not saying that Modern Guy must be able to build a house from scratch, shoe a horse or survive within the Wild indefinitely, but he should be capable of do a wide variety of things that are minimum requirements for being “Manly.”
I am aware there are actually issues on this checklist that several Men don’t do for the reason that they just do not have the time, but that is Ok. Ability is what matters right here, not chance.
The subsequent record is made up of what I take into account to be issues that define a Guy as this kind of, in no specific buy:
1- Drive a stick shift. I realize, I understand, an automated is easier, far more convenient, rush hour, and blah blah blah… It doesn’t mean you are not a Man when you do not drive a stick, just when you cannot drive a stick. So lots of individuals my age by no means learned to drive in something but a slushbox, seeing as how most folks my age discovered to drive in family sedans. I took my first driver’s check in just a little automobile with an automated and failed, but when I took the check in a full-size truck having a stick, I passed easily. It also permits you to operate a motorcycle, and what could possibly be far more Manly than that?
2- Talking of cars, Men should be capable of do very simple routine upkeep on them. Altering oil, spark plugs, filters and belts are nonetheless relatively straightforward and do not usually require any special equipment or equipment. Again, I’m not saying you’re less than a Guy should you don’t service your individual car, just that you need to have rudimentary information of its care. This has the dual purpose of becoming able to conserve cash while nonetheless utilizing prime quality components and keeping you from getting ripped off whenever you deliver it in for company. Plus you must have the ability to change out a flat tire just on common concepts.
3- Read a map. If you are not likely to quit & ask directions (and what Man would?), you’d better be capable of read a map, come across your present location and plot your own course. With the advent of pretty accurate GPS systems, this is turning into less of an issue, but it’s still a very useful skill. Learning how to refold your map is optional, even though, as a matter of aesthetics.
4-Read, write and speak articulately. Nothing is additional pathetic than a conversation having a supposedly grown Guy who uses big words and has no grasp of their actual meaning. Non-existent words, like irregardless, or mispronunciation that adds to or ignores existing letters within a word are particularly irritating. Ask men and women to pronounce “voluptuous,” I’ll bet good cash at least a third will give you “volumptuous.” What does that do to their credibility? Contrary to today’s MTV generation’s opinion, there’s nothing cooler than becoming intelligent and articulate.
5-Defend himself from an attack. I’m not stating every Guy needs to be Jet Li, but you should have the ability to protect yourself and any ladies or children in your company. Even if it’s only a verbal attack, refer to #4 above. Some Police departments in America essentially train their officers in “verbal Judo” so they can defuse a bad situation with words, instead of making it worse having a weapon. Learn to cease an attacker, but also use typical sense, mainly because you’re just not going to thwart an armed robbery. That’s horrible Hollywood BS, and it will get you and others killed.
6- A Guy will need to be able to shoot a gun. Once again, I am not declaring you must transform yourself into Dirty Harry, but familiarizing yourself with firearms will dispel a whole lot of the mystery and fear so many people today associate with them. The Founding Fathers thought it was important enough to include it within the Constitution, right after Free Speech. If you can shoot a gun, you should be able to safely load & unload it, disassemble & clean it and safely store it in your household. In case you don’t care for guns, that’s fine too, a guy who stands by his rules is still worthy of respect, as long as your dislike is not fueled by ignorance or fear. However, this does not exempt you from #5 above.
7- Standard household maintenance. Beyond altering light bulbs and cutting grass (which I personally despise), it is best to have the ability to manage the next step up. Installing a ceiling fan, light fixture, or other items should be part of a Man’s skill set. Learn how to complete simple plumbing, electrical and carpentry jobs and you might appreciate the persons who do these issues for a living a lot far more. It will also save you funds and put more sentimental value in your home, at least for you.
8- Cook a meal. Hello, it’s not 1955 any additional! Yes, a Guy must be able to cook far more than microwave meals, spaghetti and omelettes. If you can cook, you demonstrate your prowess as a provider and appeal towards the primitive side of a potential romantic interest. Along with a sense of humor, this is one of the primary issues ladies will appreciate for a quite long time. Besides, fast food will kill you faster than cigarettes.
9-Hook up your personal electronics. A Guy should be proud of his entertainment system, but wouldn’t that pride be underscored by knowing you put it together and made it work? I learned by a good deal of trial-and-error, but I now have a totally rocking system in my house. The more ancillary devices you have, the better, even if some of your devices are last-gen, like a cassette deck or turntable. It is best to also be able to put a desktop PC together and have it running in little or no time.
10- Manage your finances. In case you cannot balance your checkbook or if you carry a balance on credit cards, get used to becoming broke. Knowing how credit works will serve you well throughout your life, and I was fortunate enough to learn this before I got buried in debt. Someone told me a long time ago that “you’ll by no means get rich working for someone else, so pay yourself first.” I started doing that right away and realized how true it was fairly quickly. Do not spend cash you do not have on things you don’t truly will need. Do I want a 60″ TV? No, but I paid for it with money that was set aside for just that reason, so no real sacrifice was made to buy it. Did I have to have it? No. Did I work out a way to get it anyway? Yes.
